About the role

Here at Northumbrian Water Group, we have an exciting brand-new opportunity for a Compliance Manager within our Organisational Compliance team.

In this role, you will lead the monitoring, governance and reporting of legislative and regulatory compliance across Northumbrian Water Group. You will provide expert advice, challenge and assurance to senior leaders, ensuring legislative and regulatory obligations are clearly understood, owned and managed across the business.

You will design, maintain and continuously improve the organisational compliance framework and ensure compliance risks are appropriately reflected in the NWL risk register. You will establish an evidence base to demonstrate compliance/compliant operations, and be a key escalation point for complex or high‑risk compliance issues, shaping compliance reporting to support informed executive decision‑making, not just assurance.

As Compliance Manager, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy and professional judgement, balancing challenge with pragmatism, and assurance with enablement, supporting the business to achieve compliant outcomes in a complex and evolving regulatory landscape.

About you

If you have experience working in a compliance role within a large organisation, we would love to hear from you! You will have experience translating compliance requirements into practical solutions in a complex operating environment, and a detailed understanding of external factors influencing the industry including political, economic, social, and technological issues.

You will be degree qualified in an appropriate discipline or have the equivalent working experience. You will have experience of risk management approaches and of managing (legal) casework or enforcement action / especially compliance related.

You will have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, able to communicate with regulators to ensure a positive and productive relationship is developed and maintained with key personnel.

You can understand, interpret and apply legal Statutes and Directives, and have knowledge of Quality Assurance procedures to enable the assessment of the relevant compliance area.
