About the Role

We have opportunities for people to join our team of Meter Readers within the Meter Field Services department at Northumbrian Water. As a Meter Reader, you will be expected to travel your dedicated region undertaking timely and accurate cyclical reading of meters, so having a full valid driving licence is essential. You will interact with our customers, answering questions about water consumption and replacing/repairing meters where required. We will give you a company van to help you cover your region. Our Meter Readers spend most of their time outdoors in all weather conditions, walking, bending and lifting meter lids. In such a constantly changing work environment being aware of Health and Safety risks is paramount in achieving our aim of getting everyone home safe every day.

Responsibilities

  • Travel your dedicated region to undertake timely and accurate cyclical reading of meters.
  • Interact with customers, answer questions about water consumption and replace or repair meters where required.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, walking, bending and lifting meter lids.
  • Use handheld devices to communicate with colleagues and complete daily tasks.
  • Maintain health and safety awareness and contribute to safe working practices.
  • Work primarily on your own as part of the Meter Field Services department.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Valid full driving licence.
  • Physical fitness to walk long distances and lift meter lids.
  • Excellent communication skills and customer service orientation.
  • Availability to work 37 hours per week between 7 am and 8 pm, Monday to Sunday.
  • Self-motivated and capable of planning your own working day.
  • DBS check required prior to employment; unspent convictions may affect suitability.
