We are currently looking for a Water Quality Technical Specialist (known internally as a Water Quality Scientist) to join our busy Water Quality team. The team are responsible for ensuring we can demonstrate that Essex & Suffolk Water meets our regulatory requirements for drinking water quality.
You will be responsible for assessing the risk to public health for planned and reactive work and as a technical expert you will investigate a range of matters affecting water quality. This will require you to prepare technical reports and carry out technical audits of water treatment processes and network assets. The successful candidate will be responsible for the protection of public health and will involve providing technical expertise and advice to key internal and external customers.
To do this, the candidate will have to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including Local Authorities, UK Health Security Agency and the Drinking Water Inspectorate. We will expect you to collate and interpret data to help identify areas for improvement and assess performance. The successful candidate will also be responsible for all water quality issues at assigned treatment works and assets, the development and promotion of best practice with reference to Water Quality and integration of appropriate legislation. You will also be required to participate in a standby rota, providing support and advice on any water quality matters.

- Experience of regulations and risk assessment, with a degree in a relevant scientific subject.
- Knowledge of drinking water regulations, water treatment and distribution systems would be beneficial.
- Proven experience consulting and influencing stakeholders; ability to work in pressurised situations.
- Experience presenting to large groups is desirable; ability to write clear and concise reports and communicate with people on all levels.
- Willingness to participate in a standby rota.
