About the role:
Come and join Northumbrian Water's Water Networks team as a Customer Distribution Operative in the Tyneside, Tynedale and the Northumberland area. Whether you know this role as Ganger, Utilities Operative, or Civils Worker, this is your chance to make a meaningful difference by helping to deliver clean, clear, and reliable drinking water to local communities while providing an unrivalled customer experience.
In this role, you’ll contribute directly to our vision of becoming a national leader in the water industry, delivering world-class service and our essential-for-life product, Water. With our support and training, you’ll have the opportunity to develop new skills, enabling you to work on our water supply network with confidence and expertise. Your work will be varied, including the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground pipework and assets, all while ensuring clean and safe sites for our customers.
You’ll play an important part in providing outstanding service to our customers and communities, taking responsibility for your actions and upholding our company values in everything you do. This role requires flexibility, including participation in a standby rota and involvement in initiatives that drive improved performance.
About you:
We will offer full training, coaching, and support to the successful candidate, so prior utility experience isn’t required. However, a background in manual tasks such as groundworks, excavating, or landscaping would be an advantage. What we’re really looking for is someone with passion and enthusiasm who is eager to make a difference for our customers. Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with people are essential, along with an inquisitive mindset and the potential to learn and grow in the role. Resilience and a results-driven attitude will help you thrive in this position.
We value inclusivity, respect, and consideration, and we’re looking for someone who can confidently and constructively challenge when needed and who is open to receiving feedback positively. If you enjoy working outdoors on practical tasks and have the ability to interpret and follow both written and verbal instructions, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
A full valid UK class B driving licence is essential for this role.
