This is an excellent opportunity to develop your software development career as an Apprentice IT Software Developer within our Digital, Technology & Transformation team. You will be responsible for developing software applications and integrations built on .NET and the Microsoft Stack, including Microsoft Azure, while working towards a professional qualification.

You will design and develop high-quality, robust, secure, and scalable software applications and data platforms as part of a development team. Working under supervision, you will deliver user stories within a multidisciplinary team environment, developing your technical skills through hands-on experience with modern development practices including DevOps and test-driven development.

Key responsibilities include working with others to develop and release software changes and solutions that enable secure and reliable data management across various hosting environments, platforms, and applications. You will collaborate closely with the Development, Application Support, and Architecture & Design teams to ensure solutions align with IT Strategy and architectural standards. You will assist the IT Test team and Design Analysts in defining, writing, running, and analysing performance and load tests, while ensuring all solution documentation remains current and relevant.

This apprenticeship combines practical experience with structured learning, providing an ideal foundation for a career in professional software development within a supportive, collaborative environment.

The training provider working with us to deliver the apprenticeship is QA. Under the apprentice scheme, a minimum of six hours per week will be invested in training towards the achievement of your qualification. In addition to the support offered through the training provider, a workplace mentor will provide practical advice and guidance throughout the duration of your apprenticeship. The duration of the apprenticeship will be 19 months.

You will be based on campus working within the Digital, Technology & Transformation service, reporting to an IT Senior Software Developer. This is a supportive, collaborative environment where you will work alongside experienced software developers who are committed to mentoring and knowledge sharing. You will have opportunities to learn from IT professionals across Development, Application Support, and Architecture & Design teams while contributing to meaningful projects that impact our university community.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Experience of the Microsoft .NET Framework
  • Good .NET development skills
  • Experience developing applications and interfaces with Microsoft Azure
  • Good data access and manipulation skills using frameworks and libraries
  • Experience working effectively as part of a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently
