Are you an experienced practitioner or academic in social work, and a current practicing Approved Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP), looking for a role that provides you with the opportunity to bring your specialist professional AMHP expertise and knowledge of contemporary social work practice into our programmes, to inform the delivery of exceptional teaching and support student success.

The Social Work Programme within the School of Communities and Education at Northumbria University provides an opportunity for you to join a high quality Team, delivering education using a variety of innovative teaching and learning methods at all academic levels from undergraduate to doctoral study. Working in the Social Work Team you will be a member of a vibrant academic community that is multidisciplinary, and committed to making a difference to the health and social care of individuals and communities.

The post holder will be responsible for contributing to an exceptional student experience through the delivery of teaching, practice, knowledge exchange, scholarship and business and enterprise engagement activity. You will teach on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in social work and you will make a significant contribution to our Post Graduate Programme as an AMHP specialist, as well as contributing potentially to the wider School. You will support student recruitment through open days and interviews and act as a Personal Tutor for students.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 therefore the successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The School of Communities and Education is one of four schools within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing, situated at Coach Lane Campus. Through teaching and research, the Social Work Team aims to challenge educational, social and health inequalities and focuses on championing social justice. Its work is structured into three layers; people and communities, practice and practitioners, and overarching systems, and it plays a significant role in aiding societal recovery and repair as well as promoting inclusion. The successful, highly committed team are seeking a knowledgeable, skilled individual - a registered social worker with current AMHP specialism.

ABOUT YOU

Applicants should hold a first degree in a relevant subject and professional qualification or substantial professional experience in social work. Evidence of registration with Social Work England (SWE) or eligibility/willingness to register with SWE on appointment is desirable. You must also be able to demonstrate contemporary expert specialist knowledge and subject expertise within the relevant discipline/practice areas including AMHP ensuring that the curriculum reflects the latest developments within practice. Experience of designing, delivering, assessing, and evaluating high quality teaching and learning practice, as well as evidence of your contributions to the development of contemporary practice is desirable. As this role will involve being an essential part of the PG Cert Approved Mental Health Professional Programme Team, it is essential that applicants are qualified and practice experienced as Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs).
