We’re looking for a skilled Senior Technician to join our dynamic team within the Faculty of Science and Environment.
As a Senior Technician, you will provide essential technical support for both research and teaching in the School of Engineering, Physics and Mathematics (EPM). You’ll play a key role in the operation, maintenance and development of facilities in the Electrical Engineering laboratories, collaborating closely with academic and technical colleagues to deliver an exceptional experience for our students at our Newcastle Campus.
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in the role, you will have the following skills and experience:
- Technical Support & Expertise: Provide specialist technical support in Electrical Engineering for teaching, research, enterprise, and CPD activities, including preparation, operation, and maintenance of equipment and materials.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Supervise routine procedures and ensure adherence to Health and Safety at Work (HSAW) standards within specialist facilities. Create, implement and carry out maintenance schedules of specialist equipment.
- Facility & Equipment Management: Plan, develop, and maintain specialist facilities, including layout design, costing, resourcing, and managing the asset register and loan systems.
- Training & Instruction: Advise, assist, and deliver demonstrations or training sessions to staff and students on specialist equipment, methods, and safety procedures; produce learning materials and guides.
- Leadership & Supervision: Lead, supervise, and manage technical staff and/or facilities, participate in recruitment, and contribute to continuous development of processes and facilities.
- Flexibility & Collaboration: Work collaboratively across departments, maintain professional body accreditation, and be available for occasional off-site, evening, or weekend work.
Qualified to degree level or equivalent professional experience in one or more of the practice-based subjects offered by the Faculty.
