The role

This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Crime Team as a Word Processing Officer for Home Office Large Major Enquiry System (WPO HOLMES).
Are you detail-oriented and passionate about justice? Join #TeamNP and play a key support role in our major investigations. You\\\βll transcribe various media recordings β from suspect interviews to body-worn video footage β accurately and promptly, ensuring they are well-presented and accessible. Additionally, you\\\βll type and proof read documents, statements, and other materials using the HOLMES system or other word processing tools, providing comprehensive administrative support to our Major Investigation Team. What you\\\βll do
- Interrogate HOLMES to identify documents related to Major Investigations that require typing including statements, officer reports and other documents relevant to the investigation and in line with the MIR policy. Accurately type the documents ensuring the final product is proof read before being loaded into the HOLMES account, amending the HOLMES workflow process to clearly identify to SIO/MIR/MIT staff the current document state.
- Transcribing verbatim audio recordings in a well-presented accurate manner in accordance with MIRSAP including suspect interviews, key witness Video Recorded interviews (VRI), Achieving Best Evidence (ABE) interviews, 999 calls, Body Worn Video (BWV) and sensitive covert recordings. This will include sensitive highly distressing material where you will regularly be offered Trauma Risk Management (TRIM) support.
- Organise all typing and transcription tasks ensuring they are completed in a timely and professional manner. Regular meetings with the Officer in Charge (OIC) and the Office Manager (OM) to ensure file submission dates are met and the product produced is error free, MIRSAP compliant and court ready. This is an extremely challenging aspect of the role as urgent requests for court material are frequent and part of the day-to-day challenges of the role.
- Promptly identifying errors in documents, faults in recording equipment, faults in downloads together with workload commitments and communicating findings to either the officer concerned or escalating to the Office Manager/Officer in Charge.
- Maintain typing department work records enabling all staff to fully understand what typing has been completed and what is pending.

Terms of appointment
This is a fixed term role subject to a six-month probationary period. Requirements / Qualifications
- RSA level 3 or OCR level 3 Text processing or equivalent qualification.
- Skilled in the use of specialist IT packages, systems and/or databases to fulfil role requirements. Successful completion of MIR Typist training course.
- Able to appropriately prioritise and plan own work.
- Ability to work effectively in a team to achieve shared objectives, demonstrating awareness of individual differences and providing support and advice as required. Able to proactively develop effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders.
- Good communication skills with the ability to listen, empathise, provide support and adapt language, form, and message to meet the needs of different people / audiences.
- Able to work in a highly pressured environment and deal with sensitive and distressing information.
