Northumbria Police is recruiting a Maintenance Operative for the Business Services Team at Middle Engine Lane Police Station. The role involves building and vehicle maintenance, as well as ad-hoc driving duties to support operational activities and ensure a safe working environment for staff and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Maintain designated buildings to provide a safe and functional environment by conducting building checks.
- Carry out basic repairs and maintenance, including assessments, testing and scheduled servicing of buildings and equipment.
- Undertake office furniture moves and transfers to meet staff needs.
- Collect and dispose of confidential and non-confidential waste, unwanted furniture and equipment.
- Provide cover for other driving posts when requested to maintain driver cover.
- Arrange vehicle servicing, conduct routine checks and perform minor maintenance on police vehicles, report problems/defects to Fleet Management and arrange valeting.
- Assist contractors with repairs and provide escort services to non-vetted contractors.
- Carry out driving duties, including taking and collecting vehicles for repair and tyre replacements, and collecting items from Stores and local trade suppliers.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of general building maintenance skills and upkeep.
- A full driving licence and ability to drive manual vehicles, including transit-sized vans.
- Ability to troubleshoot building faults, remedy basic issues or appropriately escalate them.
- Capacity to work as part of a wider team and cover other locations as required.
- Strong communication skills to interact clearly and effectively with colleagues, line managers and contractors.
- Resident of the United Kingdom for a minimum of 3 years (required for vetting).

Monday – Friday 8am – 4pm.
