Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine is looking to appoint an Assistant Chief Constable and is seeking a progressive and innovative leader with a passion to bring new ideas to Northumbria Police. As Assistant Chief Constable you will play a pivotal role in helping Northumbria Police grow and build on public and organisational confidence whilst developing and nurturing future talent to support change and transformation to deliver an effective policing service.

You will have a demonstrable track record of successfully working at an executive level, ensuring effective and supportive leadership for officers’ staff and volunteers.

You’re experienced in leading business change with a sophisticated level of critical thinking, consistently looking beyond the obvious and exploring alternatives. You’ll be able to demonstrate your ability to quickly establish credibility with staff, partners, and our communities. You’ve the skills and behaviours to foster a culture where our workforce feels valued, listened to, and empowered. You will be adept in handling the media, with the necessary depth and breadth of operational experience.

Eligibility criteria: To apply for this role applicants must be one of the following:

  • Chief Superintendent/Superintendent who has passed PNAC and Senior Command Course
  • Chief Superintendent/Superintendent currently undertaking the new Executive Leaders Programme, including those who have passed the most recent development centre.

Appointments will be on a temporary basis, before being confirmed as substantive, upon successful completion of the programme.

Successful candidates will be invited to participate in the following selection process:

  • Psychometric Assessment – shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in a psychometric and personality profile exercise.
  • Stakeholder Panel – Comprising of external stakeholders. Candidates should note that this panel will not be scored, feedback will be provided to the appointment panel as we value the perspectives of our partners and communities.
  • Presentation and Interview – will comprise of an assessed presentation and interview with the appointment panel.
