The Stores and Logistics Department at Pelaw serves as a vital operational hub for Northumbria Police, providing essential support across the entire force. This dynamic facility is responsible for the procurement, storage, and distribution of a wide range of equipment, uniforms, and personal protective gear, ensuring officers and staff are fully equipped to carry out their duties. The department manages warehousing operations and a comprehensive logistics and delivery network, enabling efficient movement of goods and materials across all police sites. With a strong focus on accuracy, responsiveness, and service quality, the Pelaw team plays a crucial role in maintaining operational readiness and supporting frontline policing.
This is a key leadership role based at Pelaw Stores & Logistics, where you’ll be responsible for ensuring high-quality service delivery, maintaining professional standards, and promoting staff wellbeing. The role includes significant responsibility for warehouse operations, stock control, and logistics coordination.
What you’ll do
- Manage staff deployment across multi-functional areas to meet customer and service delivery standards. You will ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements, quality checks, and problem-solve to enhance efficiency.
- Plan and support individual and team development through regular 1:1s and performance monitoring, addressing training needs cost-effectively.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with managers and staff, resolving service delivery and resource allocation issues.
- Oversee day-to-day staff management, including work allocation, performance, attendance, disciplinary issues, and recruitment, while addressing welfare and wellbeing concerns.
- Schedule and complete health and safety inspections, building checks, and maintenance tasks, ensuring compliance with legislation and liaising with Estates and contractors.

- Proven experience in a supervisory role within a large, complex organisation.
- Strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Experience managing people issues including performance, attendance, and disciplinary matters.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and report writing.
- A professional and proactive approach to customer service.
- Desirable: Experience working in a warehouse setting, with knowledge of stock control and logistics operations.
- Driving may be required depending on geographic responsibilities.
