Working for Team NP

Our purpose at Team NP is simple: to keep people safe and to fight crime. But it takes more than officers alone to do the job – and that’s where our 2,000-strong team of police staff and 200 volunteers come in.

The role

Here at Northumbria Police, we think our region is amazing! It takes a great deal of people from different backgrounds, with diverse skills and experience to serve our force area effectively, think you have what it takes to help us make a difference? This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Stores and Logistics Department as a Business Services Team Leader.

The Stores and Logistics Department at Pelaw serves as a vital operational hub for Northumbria Police, providing essential support across the entire force. This dynamic facility is responsible for the procurement, storage, and distribution of a wide range of equipment, uniforms, and personal protective gear, ensuring officers and staff are fully equipped to carry out their duties. The department manages warehousing operations and a comprehensive logistics and delivery network, enabling efficient movement of goods and materials across all police sites. With a strong focus on accuracy, responsiveness, and service quality, the Pelaw team plays a crucial role in maintaining operational readiness and supporting frontline policing.

This is a key leadership role based at Pelaw Stores & Logistics, where you’ll be responsible for ensuring high-quality service delivery, maintaining professional standards, and promoting staff wellbeing. The role includes significant responsibility for warehouse operations, stock control, and logistics coordination.

What you’ll do

  • Manage staff deployment across multi-functional areas to meet customer and service delivery standards. You will ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements, quality checks, and problem-solve to enhance efficiency.
  • Plan and support individual and team development through regular 1:1s and performance monitoring, addressing training needs cost-effectively.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with managers and staff, resolving service delivery and resource allocation issues.
  • Oversee day-to-day staff management, including work allocation, performance, attendance, disciplinary issues, and recruitment, while addressing welfare and wellbeing concerns.
  • Schedule and complete health and safety inspections, building checks, and maintenance tasks, ensuring compliance with legislation and liaising with Estates and contractors.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven experience in a supervisory role within a large, complex organisation.
  • Strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience managing people issues including performance, attendance, and disciplinary matters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and report writing.
  • A professional and proactive approach to customer service.
  • Desirable: Experience working in a warehouse setting, with knowledge of stock control and logistics operations.
  • Driving may be required depending on geographic responsibilities.
