The role

Here at Northumbria Police, we think our region is amazing! It takes a great deal of people from different backgrounds, with diverse skills and experience to serve our force area effectively. This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Information Management Department as an Information Security and Assurance Manager.

We are seeking a strategic leader to head our core Information Management functions, including Information Security, Records Reviews, Data Quality, Information Systems Audit and Operational Security. In this pivotal role, you will shape the direction of these functions, driving continuous improvement and ensuring they deliver high quality, effective services.

Acting as Deputy to the Head of Department, you will play a key role in overseeing the organisation’s overall information security and assurance posture. You’ll lead programmes of assurance and transformational change, providing both proactive and reactive responses to emerging information security risks. Your leadership will ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of our systems, data and physical assets, supporting the Force in maintaining the highest standards of information governance and security.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and develop the Force’s overall information security and assurance posture across technology, data, and physical assets to support strategic and operational goals.
  • Maintain up to date information security and assurance policies and procedures aligned with local and national standards.
  • Design, implement, and audit security policies, procedures, and risk management programmes to safeguard the organisation from unauthorised security breaches.
  • Serve as the Force’s primary authority for information security issues, offering proactive and reactive guidance on the secure operation of systems and applications.
  • Promote internal communication and awareness initiatives to ensure all staff understand their responsibilities in protecting information systems and assets.
  • Coordinate investigations and reporting of actual or suspected security incidents involving technology or personnel, producing reports to strengthen future security measures.

What you’ll bring

  • You will hold key information security certifications, including CISMP and CCP (Security & Information Risk Adviser and Information Assurance Auditor specialisms), with strong knowledge of security and risk accreditation processes such as risk assessment and reporting.
  • Qualified (or experienced) in managing internal investigations relating to information security threats and data breaches, including data protection related incidents.
  • Extensive understanding of assessing, recording, and monitoring risk at both organisational and individual levels, ensuring all matters are managed in accordance with relevant standards and procedures.
  • Proven ability to manage a complex workload, balancing competing demands and tight deadlines effectively.
  • Possesses the ability to organise, develop and motivate staff, as well as design and improve processes to meet anticipated service demands.
