You will be registered on the appropriate part of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) register or relevant professional body. Hold a relevant first degree or diploma, such as DCR, BSc Radiography/Midwifery, or equivalent. This post includes clinical training within the Ultrasound Department and academic training on the Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound course hosted by the University of Hertfordshire from September 2023.
Essential criteria for the role and entry requirements for the training course include:
- A relevant University degree or diploma (or equivalent) in health care and registration with the HCPC or relevant professional body.
- Employment in or access to an appropriate clinical site whilst enrolled on the program, provided by NNUH.
- Candidates should have approximately 12 months of relevant clinical practice experience after qualification.
The Postgraduate Diploma course is rewarding but demanding, requiring high levels of self-motivation and commitment. Essential skills and experience include:
- Clinical skills to undertake ultrasound examinations, improve scanning techniques, and adapt to anatomical and pathological variations.
- Knowledge of machine optimisation, safety, and image clarity.
- Ability to interpret ultrasound images and provide independent clinical reports.
- Understanding of other diagnostic tests and symptoms influencing ultrasound findings, ensuring appropriate examinations through knowledge and communication with senior clinicians.
Professional development requirements include:
- Developing and maintaining skills necessary to qualify as a sonographer.
- Holding a relevant degree or diploma and having at least 12 months of clinical experience.
- State registration with HCPC or relevant professional body.
- Working within the Code of Professional Conduct of the College of Radiographers and HCPC, maintaining professional registration.
