We have an opportunity for a friendly, flexible and conscientious Catering Assistant to join our small team at Blyth Community Hospital.
This position is to work 13 hrs per week, usually worked as 2 x 6.5 hr shifts between Monday – Sunday, either 7am – 2pm or 11am – 6pm as part of a rota. A share of weekend and Bank Holiday working is required.
Flexibility to work additional hours to cover holidays and other absences would be appreciated.
Please ensure that you would be able to commit to these shift times and arrangements before applying.
The successful applicant will be given full training, and the opportunity to develop further skills to aid progression will also be available.
To fulfil this role you will be required to maintain the standards of cleanliness as specified throughout the work areas in the main hospital kitchen by means of approved methods.
Some previous catering experience, and experience with cash handling and / or customer service would be beneficial. Good communication skills are essential.

The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving, checking for quality, temperature and correct quantity as per order to suppliers, and the storage of such goods in the appropriate area within the time limits set out in the department policy on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP).
To be able to demonstrate the ability to serve food to staff and patients and to be able to check temperature levels and be aware of the Food Temperature Regulations.
Operating the central dish wash machine, cleaning, drying and checking of the staff/ward crockery and cutlery.
Preparation of vegetables, fruits and salads.
Preparation and dispatch of meals.
Patient meal service
Service of food in restaurant.
Service of food in the Dining Room and associated areas and preparation of sandwiches, hot snacks and beverages where applicable.
The cleaning and re-stocking of vending machines.
