We work closely with Kids First Nurseries that are based within our trust grounds at Wansbeck, North Tyneside and Hexham hospitals to care for our Trust family's children, they offer care for children from 6 weeks old up to 4 years. Job overview

Applications are invited for this training role, where successful applicants will undergo a bespoke training programme in NHS payroll and associated terms and conditions.

Working with a team of busy payroll professionals to calculate and input accurate payments to NHS colleagues.

Main duties of the job

  • Interpret and action payments of staff additional hours promptly and efficiently in line with current national, local and Statutory guidelines.
  • Other calculations and data entry commensurate with skills and experience
  • Operating the Computer based payrolling system.
  • Checking authorization and accuracy of data
  • Assisting with controls to ensure payments have been paid correctly
  • Dealing promptly with any discrepancies to ensure the payment deadlines are met
  • Maintaining documentation and records pertaining to the pensions and expenses section.
  • Investigating and answering queries both verbal and written.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Interpret and action payments with accuracy and efficiency. Makes decisions around own workload and understands when to highlight problems.
  • Understand and complete routine transactions using practical experience.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Statutory Requirements
  • Experience of computerized payment system
  • Experience of dealing with routine enquiries in a confident and sensitive manner.
  • Provision of information to managers and colleagues in a confident and sensitive manner.
  • Organises allocated workload to meet strict deadlines
  • Keyboard skills to achieve input of high quality data with accuracy
  • Responsible for the calculation and generation of payments as required.
  • Provides support to other members of staff
  • Input of financial data into computerized payment system
  • Requires long periods of keyboard input of data
  • Uses keyboard for a substantial part of the day
  • Works within clearly defined policies and procedures with supervision
  • Requires periods of concentration to input, check and calculate data and works to strict deadlines.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • 5 GCSE/ O Levels, including English & Mathematics or NVQ level 2 or equivalent experience.
  • NVQ Level 3/ AAT/ Foundation Qualification in Payroll & Pensions or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Experience of work in a payroll environment
  • Experience using excel spreadsheets
  • Experience of working in an NHS Payroll Office
