We work closely with Kids First Nurseries that are based within our trust grounds at Wansbeck, North Tyneside and Hexham hospitals to care for our Trust family's children, they offer care for children from 6 weeks old up to 4 years. Job overview
We are seeking an Observability Engineer to support the delivery and ongoing development of Trust-wide monitoring and observability capabilities across on-premise, cloud and hybrid environments. This role will help ensure the performance, availability and reliability of the Trust's digital systems that support patient care.

Main duties of the job
- Support the delivery and ongoing development of Trust-wide observability across on-premise, cloud and hybrid environments.
- Implement and maintain monitoring and observability solutions for telemetry collection, correlation, retention and visualisation.
- Support clinical safety by helping ensure patient-critical systems are effectively monitored and potential issues are identified early.
- Work collaboratively with infrastructure, application, cybersecurity, clinical safety and service management teams.
- Support the onboarding of new technical systems and equipment into observability and alerting platforms.
- Administer, maintain and enhance the Trust's monitoring and availability tools, ensuring they remain reliable and effective.
- Support major incident investigation, post-incident reviews and the production of monitoring and analytical reports.
- Identify gaps in monitoring and opportunities to improve alerting, dashboards, automation and overall observability coverage.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will support the implementation and maintenance of the Trust's observability capabilities across metrics, logs, tracing, alerting and dashboards. Working with infrastructure, application, cybersecurity and clinical safety teams, you will help improve monitoring coverage, support proactive identification of issues and contribute to incident response, service resilience and continual improvement.
This is a unique opportunity to shape a core digital capability within a progressive Trust.
Person specification
Qualifications / Professional Registration
- Educated to degree level in a digital related discipline or equivalent level of knowledge plus additional specialist knowledge in an industry alerting tooling system
- Evidence of continuous professional development or foundational training in network and systems infrastructure
Experience and knowledge
- Significant operational experience within an enterprise scale organisation, across multiple sites
- Operational digital experience with an ability to demonstrate the relationship between end users and the overall technology stack
- Experience of navigating Windows server and UNIX environments to assist with monitoring queries and integrations
- Experience of network monitoring tools
- Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
- Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
Other requirements
