The successful applicant will provide efficient and effective organisation, supervision and management of domestic staff involved in cleaning duties working within the central pool, on wards and in departments, providing training and technical support. The role may be closed prior to the closing date once the required number of suitable applications have been received.
Main duties
- Provide efficient and effective organisation, supervision and management of domestic staff (cleaning duties).
- Act as a role model to members of the Domestic Services department, offering support and guidance, following principles of compassionate and collective leadership.
- Fully effective and efficient deployment of staff to maintain safe, hygienic, tidy and clean clinical and non‑clinical areas.
- Administration of Staff Rostering system.
- Undertake Return to Work meetings with staff following sickness absence.
- Successfully manage programme of duties associated with staff management such as administration, training and development, appraisal, counselling.
- Check and upkeep all cleaning equipment and maintain service/report schedules.
- Verify that specified work is completed to satisfactory standard, frequently checking work in area and completing Supervisor Cleaning Inspection sheets.
- Order, receive and issue stores and protective clothing to staff.
- Check correct use of all materials and equipment; ensure all equipment is in good working order and kept clean.
- Carry out on‑the‑job training to staff to ensure correct methods and working practices, give sufficient close supervision and training to new staff until required standard is achieved.
- Respond to low level complaints in an effective and professional manner, achieving successful resolution.
- Ensure that appraisals and statutory and mandatory training are completed in designated staff group.
- Regularly complete quality control sheets in accordance with quality control procedures.
- Report need for structural and fabric repairs.
- Ensure that periodic cleaning is carried out according to programme and recorded.
- Maintain daily staff register and any other required record.
- Assist staff in recording incidents via the Datix system.
- Responsible for issuing keys and key fobs as appropriate.
- Assess new buildings and departments for the setting up of work schedules, costs, time and equipment required.
- Observe confidentiality of information acquired in course of work.

Essential Qualifications
- Knowledge of health and safety and hygiene regulations governing hospital and clinical sites, NHS policies, risk management, and payroll processes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the correct and safe use of equipment and fluids used within the postholder's area of responsibility.
- General Education.
- Literate and numerate.
- Basic COSHH Awareness.
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent Level 1 Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Customer Service Training.
Desirable Qualifications
- Level 2 National Vocational Qualification in Cleaning and Support Services or equivalent level of acquired knowledge/experience in a similar role.
- Keyboard skills.
Essential Experience and Knowledge
- Experience working in a Cleaning/ Domestic role.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in Training Staff, Supervisory Experience.
