We are looking for hard-working, enthusiastic individuals to join our Refuse Staff Bank pool as a Refuse Loader. Northumberland County Council’s Staff Bank provides a pool of highly skilled temporary workers who are looking for a long-term placement, or who want to work flexibly within the council. If a team needs support due to sickness, common staff shortages, or general vacancies, they call upon registered bank members to fill available assignments. These can be filled via a long-term assignment for up to 12 months or on an ad hoc basis.

As a Refuse Loader you will:

  • Provide a complete waste and recycling service on behalf of the residents and community in Northumberland.
  • Ensure that general waste and recycling is collected as per schedule and streets, homes and businesses are kept clean, safe and tidy, whilst providing the very best levels of customer service to all members of the community that we serve.
  • Work 4 days a week.

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you are:

  • Hardworking and physically fit and healthy due to the nature of the business.
  • Willing to go the extra mile whilst on your rounds and hold plenty of enthusiasm and a big smile.
  • Knowledgeable of the range of tasks, together with the operation of associated tools and equipment and have an appreciation and interest in the need for the service.
  • Capable of manoeuvring bins and operating hydraulics and the specialist skills associated with the operation of hydraulic equipment.
  • Able to cope with the regular high level of physical demand and maintain general awareness to ensure safe working conditions.
  • A front-line member of staff representing Northumberland County Council.
  • Responsible for keeping the area beautiful, safe and a clean place to live and work.
  • Part of the wider refuse collection team.
  • Reliable and punctual.
