An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and skilled arable operator to join The Northumberland Estates' arable team at Percy Farms on a permanent, full-time basis.
This in-hand arable enterprise, based at Alnwick, is approximately 1900 hectares, with cropping that includes winter wheat and barley, oilseed rape and spring cereals alongside a beef finishing unit. Farming and conservation work hand in hand throughout the estate, which is entered into conservation schemes such as Mid-tier stewardship and Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI). Additionally, there is a grey partridge conservation project on a large area of the farm. The farm makes use of modern technology by utilising GPS systems to ensure operational accuracy; yield and soil mapping are used to assist in the accurate application of seed, lime and fertiliser.
The role
The main responsibilities will include operating Case tractors, Horsch drills and Amazone fertiliser spreader as well as relief spraying of an Agrifac or Horsch trailed sprayer. A wide range of general farm tasks using modern machinery will also be required throughout the year. The successful candidate will have suitable experience and have a focus on high quality of work and attention to detail. PA1, 2, 4 and telehandler certificate will be required in addition to a full UK driving licence. Applicants must be over 21 years old, should be enthusiastic about their work, possess excellent communication and teamwork skills, and have a very good understanding of farm health and safety.
A competitive remuneration package will be offered to reflect ability and experience. Opportunities for further training will be provided. Accommodation is available on the estate.
