Kyloe House is part of Northumberland County Council's network of residential homes for young people, providing care and support in a safe, nurturing environment. In this role, you will be part of a team responsible for maintaining high-quality, homely surroundings across Kyloe House and, where required, other open residential homes within Northumberland. The role will primarily involve painting and decorating; however, we are looking for someone who can bring a multi-skilled approach to maintenance tasks. This will include minor repairs such as patching, basic tiling, joinery, and simple plumbing work to ensure our homes remain safe, welcoming, and well-maintained. You will be working in occupied residential care settings, often in the presence of young people and staff, so professionalism, respect, and sensitivity are essential. The ability to work flexibly across multiple homes while maintaining consistency in standards is key. As part of our commitment to development, you may also be asked to:
- Support apprentices or work experience placements
- Positively engage within the residential environment in a way that respects and supports young people; this is a permanent position primarily based at Kyloe House, with the expectation of working across other open residential homes within Northumberland as required to support service needs.
We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion and welcome applications from all backgrounds. A guaranteed interview scheme is available for disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria. Alternative application formats are available on request.
Key Insight: This role is about more than maintenance-it plays a key part in ensuring that young people across Northumberland's residential homes live in safe, comfortable, and high-quality environments that support their wellbeing and development.
- Reliable, adaptable, and hardworking
- Comfortable working across multiple residential homes
- Professional, respectful, and approachable
- Committed to high standards and excellent service
- Able to uphold values of putting young people first, respect, quality, and keeping others safe and well
Requirements of the Job:
- Level 2-3 qualification in painting, decorating, tiling or equivalent experience
- Ability to use handheld IT equipment to receive and complete work tasks
- Ability to work safely at height using ladders and appropriate equipment
