About The College

Northumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently building a multi-million, state of the art, new college campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026. The successful candidate will be based at the new college where a purpose-built construction, housing, advanced manufacturing and engineering centre will be located. Curriculum spans technical, vocational further and higher education and includes large apprenticeship provision and dedicated centres for young people with SEND.

You will shape positive futures by supporting students with SEND early in their journey. By working closely with schools and partners, you help remove barriers before students arrive at college. Your work leads to better transitions, stronger confidence, and clearer progression pathways.

About The Role

This role focuses on early, collaborative transition planning for students with SEN, working closely with schools to assess needs, design support, and prepare students for college life. You will play a key part in the EHCP process and ensure each learner has a clear, supported pathway. This is a strong opportunity to develop expertise in SEN support, multi agency working, and data systems, while contributing to meaningful outcomes for young people.

Role Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with schools to plan and deliver early transition support
  • Assess student needs and develop tailored transition plans
  • Manage a caseload of SEN students and track progress
  • Contribute to EHCP processes, meetings, and reviews
  • Liaise with families, staff, and external agencies
  • Maintain accurate records and update relevant databases

Qualifications

  • Level 2 or 3 qualification in learning support or equivalent
  • Level 2 literacy and numeracy

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of SEN and EHCP processes
  • Experience working with schools and external agencies
  • Ability to assess needs and plan effective support
  • Clear communication and relationship building skills
  • Strong organisational and record keeping skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Experience supporting transition into further education
