About The College
Northumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently building a multi-million, state of the art, new college campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026. The successful candidate will be based at the new college where a purpose-built construction, housing, advanced manufacturing and engineering centre will be located.
The curriculum spans technical, vocational further and higher education and includes large apprenticeship provision and dedicated centres for young people with SEND.
The College has two main campuses in Ashington and Ponteland, and as part of the college group Education Partnership Northeast, it also has a significant number of satellite delivery centres across the region.

About The Candidate
Are you passionate about horses and ready to build a rewarding career in further education? At Northumberland College’s Kirkley Hall campus, we are seeking an authentic, dedicated, and skilled Equine Technician/Groom to join our team on a 0.8 basis (4 days per week). Share your courage, respect, and commitment to excellence as you support the education and development of students within our Equine Studies programmes.
About The Role
As an Equine Technician/Groom, you will maintain the highest standards of horse care and support the learning experience of our students. You will provide daily care, feeding, grooming, and stable management to ensure the health, welfare, and happiness of all horses on site. You will collaborate with teaching staff, assist in preparing horses for riding lessons and practical sessions, contribute to equine-related events, and ensure smooth upkeep of stables, arenas, and equipment.
With a focus on excellence, maintain accurate records, follow best practice in horse management, and adhere to health & safety regulations. This role demands courage to take initiative, work with integrity, and model the values we instill in our students.
Role Responsibilities
- Daily care of the college horses to include all aspects of horse husbandry
- Support students with yard duties and riding activities
- Prepare practical activities to support teaching staff
- Work as a team to maintain the highest standards of equine care and management
Qualifications
- GCSE grade 4 or equivalent in Mathematics
- GCSE grade 4 or equivalent in English Language
- Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 2 years industry experience in the equine industry
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience of working in a team
- Experience of working in an educational setting
