The Head of Estates will lead and develop the Estates team across Northumberland College sites, ensuring delivery of high-quality services, compliance with health and safety standards, and successful completion of projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and develop a team with the required skills, training and knowledge to prioritise and deliver quality services effectively and efficiently.
  • Ensure standards and compliance are maintained to the highest level across all Northumberland College sites.
  • Lead and assist in the delivery of projects as required.
  • Lead and guide the team to deliver departmental improvements in processes, performance and working practices.
  • Manage and promote all aspects of health and safety, both for in-house and contracted resources.
  • Develop a 'right-first-time' culture with in-house and contracted staff.

Role Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Estates Director to deliver the Estates service, including small and large projects, achieving high quality results cost effectively.
  • Provide leadership and direction to managers, team leaders and staff via regular communication forums, briefing sessions, toolbox talks and one-to-one meetings.
  • Assist in the preparation, assessment and issuance of tenders for major works, supervise installation works through to completion.
  • Manage contractor relationships to maintain high service levels and response times while adhering to college financial guidelines.
  • Ensure each campus is resourced appropriately to meet business demands, supporting both curriculum and commercial activities.
  • Work with peers to ensure sites are maintained and compliant with required health and safety standards and legislation.

Qualifications

  • Relevant management training / qualification or experience.
  • Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English.
  • Health & Safety qualification – NEBOSH / IOSH.
  • Asbestos qualification.
  • A valid driving licence.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of Facilities Management SOFT services.
  • Previous experience in a Facilities Management / Estates position.
  • Management of contracts and contractors.
  • Leadership / team management experience.
  • Delivery of medium to large projects.
