Trainee Asphalt Operative

Northstone Materials is one of the leading quarry, civil engineering and road contractors operating in Northern Ireland and Border Counties. We are seeking a motivated and reliable Trainee Asphalt Operative to join our team at Croaghan Quarry.

The successful candidate will receive training and support to develop the skills required to assist with the safe and efficient production of asphalt materials, while maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the safe operation of asphalt plant machinery and associated equipment in line with our operating procedures;
  • Learn and support the asphalt production process under the guidance of experienced team members;
  • Assist with monitoring production processes to help ensure quality, consistency and output targets are achieved;
  • Carry out routine inspections, housekeeping and cleaning of the plant and surrounding work areas;
  • Report any faults, defects or safety concerns to supervisory staff;
  • Ensure all activities comply with our health and safety, environmental and quality standards;
  • Assist with stock management of raw materials and finished products;
  • Work effectively with colleagues, contractors and drivers to support efficient site operations;
  • Complete relevant documentation and records accurately as required;
  • Participate fully in training programmes, toolbox talks and safety briefings;
  • Develop knowledge of asphalt production processes, plant operations and maintenance activities;
  • Support general site duties as required.

  • Previous experience in a quarry, construction, manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Experience working with plant or machinery
  • Relevant plant, quarry or construction-related certifications
  • Basic mechanical aptitude or maintenance experience
  • Full UK driving licence.
