The primary purpose of the Programme Quality Engineer is to deliver Mission Assurance support across assigned bids and projects/programmes, monitoring progress of Hardware and Electrical aspects of complex system development for technical and process compliance with a focus on oversight, inspection and acceptance of system deliverables. This role has the authority to prevent the release of deliverables until accepted standards are achieved.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct MA/QA activities during business acquisition and programme execution in accordance with company processes and procedures.
  • Provide independent oversight into assigned bids/Programme to ensure compliance with all required external standards, internal and contractual requirements.
  • Participate in bid and programme Gate Reviews to assist the teams in achieving mission success
  • Work with project teams and Supply Chain staff to assure Supplier Quality, including supplier on-boarding activities and ongoing supplier performance management, and ensuring projects complete quarterly assessments of critical suppliers.
  • Assist with the flow down of MA/QA requirements to suppliers.
  • Support Risk and Opportunity Management activities on bids, projects and Programmes.
  • Support sub-contract management activities during Programme execution.
  • Develop and document any programme-specific processes required.
  • Provide MA/QA reports as required, escalating significant issues or risks.
  • Ensure customer deliverables are of acceptable quality and meet all required standards and contractual requirements.
  • Liaise with customers and other third parties including suppliers regarding all aspects of Mission and Quality Assurance for assigned projects.
  • Collect, interpret and present MA/QA metrics to the Programme Manager, NSS Mission Assurance Manager and the Head of Quality.
  • Follow up audits to validate the resolution of non-conformities and findings raised.
  • Attend technical direction department meetings as required.

Person Specification, Essential Qualifications/Experience

  • Quality Assurance experience, ideally in a systems engineering environment.
  • Experience of UK MOD assurance requirements and working practices.
  • Track record of delivering to identified Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Experience of quality improvement, including lessons learnt & root cause analysis.
  • Experience of risk identification, reporting and management
  • Some UK travel is required, so a valid UK driving license is required.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience/Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of APQP/PPAP Methodology, preferably AS9145.
  • IPC 610/620 Certification for electrical inspection.
  • Working experience with creating and interpreting Quality Management Plan (QMP) flow-down from AQAP Standards:
    • 2105 (NATO Requirements for Quality Plans).
    • 2110 (NATO Quality Assurance Requirements for Design, Development and Production).
    • 2210 (NATO Supplementary Software Quality Assurance Requirements).
  • Sound working knowledge of Defence engineering standards and working practices Def Stan 05-57, IEC 61508.
  • A good understanding of systems engineering principles and methodologies.
  • Sound knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100 and ISO 27001.
  • ISO 44001 and ISO 20000-1 knowledge would be welcome.

  • Self-motivated and able to work both autonomously and as part of a wider team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and customers.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient IT skills, specifically in MS Office tools and JIRA, Atlassian Tools, ERP Systems such as SAP.
  • Flexible, dynamic and responsive attitude, proficient at multi-tasking, working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
