Opportunity

Are you a Control Systems Engineer, eager to work in a highly regulated defence environment? We are seeking an early career software engineer, with a strong foundation in engineering principles, to join our team. This position offers the unique opportunity to design, develop, and maintain cutting‑edge HCI solutions for our naval platform management systems, deployed on the UK submarine fleet. You will play a critical role in both the development of the product and the continued support in regard to in‑service and through life operational capability, supporting mission‑critical naval operations. This role is ideal for engineers with an interest in large infrastructure SCADA solutions, who also wish to develop skills in functional safety and product security.

Responsibilities

  • Specify, design and test solutions for SCADA Systems and operating systems using RedHat Linux
  • Capture, interpret and develop customer requirements
  • Produce technical documentation in accordance with company/customer procedures
  • Specify, design and test solutions for control systems
  • Validate software designs through analysis and test
  • Be aware of and comply with company standards of conduct and all relevant statutory requirements
  • Provide input to project meetings and team briefings
  • Undertake any other reasonable task as requested

We are looking for:

  • Experienced in the use of High‑Level Programming Languages within SCADA IDE environments such as VB, C#/C++, Python
  • Hands on knowledge of Linux operating systems
  • Familiarity with software development life‑cycles, processes and procedures
  • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent in Software Engineering or a related discipline e.g. Systems or Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • Some experience in a software engineering environment, or strong academic experience with practical projects

Preferred

  • Development Experience of Siemens (ETM) WinCC Open Architecture (OA) or other similar SCADA systems
  • Experience within Defence, Maritime (Ship’s machinery and control systems), Aerospace, or a similarly regulated industrial sector (e.g. Oil & Gas, Pharma or PetroChem)

Security clearance

You must be able to gain and maintain the relevant UK Government security clearance in line with the job role (SC).
