Define Possible at Northrop Grumman UK

At Northrop Grumman UK, our mission is to solve the most complex challenges by shaping the technology and solutions of tomorrow. We call it Defining Possible.

This mind-set goes beyond our customer solutions; it’s the foundation for your career development and the impact we have within the community. So, what’s your possible?

Opportunity:

This is more than just a job; it’s a mission.

The role is for an experienced data scientist to provide technical delivery and subject matter expertise in data science and machine learning across domains relevant to our customers’ missions. This technical role requires a detailed knowledge of a broad range of methods and technologies – with opportunities to work across analytics, data fusion and visualisation, data science, data engineering, machine learning and artificial intelligence – and technical leadership of project teams.

Our UK Cyber & Intelligence business combines modern software development approaches with a rich heritage and experience in the Defence and security sectors. Our customers have complex and sensitive data and information requirements requiring a mission partner who quickly understands the context, delivering and sustaining a portfolio of challenging technology projects at scale and pace, supporting them through an ambitious digital transformation programme.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership for a team of data scientists, to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and to quality, and manage any changes to data science work packages.

  • Act as a principal design authority and reviewer for a data science work package, providing technical guidance to more junior data scientists advising on the appropriate data science and machine learning methods and tools, standards and best practice.

  • Act as a formal customer technical point of contact and understand customer expectations to ensure delivery content and styles matches.

  • Represent the organisation by converting customer problems into potential solutions and opportunities, and work with account managers to develop opportunities into propositions, aligning with the current account strategy.

  • Support the production of technical sections of bids, proposals and studies.

  • Contribute to data science strategy and standards including data governance and ethics.

Benefits:

We can offer you a range of flexible and hybrid working options to suit you, including optional compressed working schedule with every other Friday off. Our benefits include private health care, career development opportunities and performance bonuses. For a comprehensive list of benefits, speak to our recruitment team.

We are looking for:

  • Experience providing support and guidance to other data scientists; someone who is a recognised authority on a number of specialisms, with knowledge of cutting-edge techniques.

  • Ability to engage with senior (internal and customer) stakeholders and champion the value of data science and machine learning.

  • Proficiency and knowledge across a wide range of data science and machine learning areas, or have deep expertise in a narrower range of specialisms which should include experience of successful application of appropriate methods.

  • Experience of working with data engineers to build data pipelines at scale using a wide range of tools and techniques.

  • Provide technical solutions – that are innovative, practical, relevant to the customer’s mission and consistent with organisation objectives – to a wide range of complex, difficult problems.

  • Experience in geographical information systems and in predictive and prescriptive analysis of geographical data would be a bonus.

Security clearance:

You must already hold the highest level of UK Government security clearance. Our requirement team is on hand to answer any questions and we will guide you through the process.
