The Opportunity

As Head of PMO, you will be a senior leader within our Defence Operating Unit, shaping the strategy, performance and delivery of Programme Delivery and Project Controls across national‑critical programmes. You will drive consistency, best practice and measurable value across PMO activity, while developing a high‑performing team of Project Controllers.
You will play a key role in ensuring we deliver reliable schedules, robust reporting and actionable insight across major programmes, bids and investments. Your work will directly support mission‑critical systems used across the UK and internationally, including technology that underpins the modern backbone of the Royal Navy.
What You Will Do
Lead, develop and engage the Project Controls and PMO team, driving performance and capability.
Ensure consistent, robust programme and project control processes across the organisation.
Oversee high‑quality month‑end reporting, including meaningful variance analysis and actionable insights.
Ensure schedule adherence and communicate in‑month variances to project teams.
Participate in senior stakeholder reviews, identifying key actions and ensuring follow‑through.
Drive continuous improvement across PMO and Project Controls processes, standardising where appropriate.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
Extensive experience leading a PMO or Project Controls function.
Proven experience managing and developing teams.
Strong stakeholder engagement and the ability to present complex data clearly and confidently.
Experience with Primavera P6 and planning best practice.
Knowledge of Risk Management, Earned Value Management and Agile methodologies.
Preferred
- Experience working on large technical, defence, or highly regulated programmes.
