Northgate Practice are looking for an experienced medical receptionist to join our team to cover a maternity leave. You will provide a key service within the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, both in person and via the telephone.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To ensure an effective and efficient Reception service is provided to patients and other visitors to the practice.
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments.
  • Ensure that any problems not resolved by the end of a shift are communicated to fellow Receptionists.
  • Explain Practice arrangements and formal requirements to patients.
  • Receive and make telephone calls as required.
  • Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate action.
  • Liaise with GPs and carry out tasks requested by them.
  • Action repeat prescriptions.
  • Chaperone patients in consultations with GPs and Nurses as required (training will be provided).
  • Be able to cover for colleagues who are on annual leave or off sick.

Applicant must be able to work 8am starts and 6pm finishes. This is the working pattern we require. Please do not apply if you cannot work these hours: Monday 8am-6pm, Thursday 12-6pm and Friday 12-6pm. Northgate Practice is a practice with a list size of around 10,000 patients. We are based in a purpose built building in Aldridge, a suburb of Walsall. We have five partners, along with two salaried GPs, a full nursing team, administration and reception teams. We are a forward thinking Practice and are looking for someone who can fit into this fast-paced, often demanding environment.

Job responsibilities:

  • Provide a key service within the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, both in person and on the telephone.
  • Answer telephone calls from patients.
  • Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: GCSE grade A to C (or equivalent) in English.
  • Other: Pleasant personality, ability to work as part of a team, flexibility to cover annual leave and sickness.
  • Experience: Please do not apply if you have no experience of working in a General Practice. Experience of working in a GP Practice, Experience of EMIS Web.
