We are looking for two compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistants to join our team and play a key role in the delivery of high-quality patient care within our Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) clinics. Working alongside experienced clinical staff, you will support the smooth and efficient running of our outpatient services, helping to ensure every patient receives a positive and professional experience.

We are recruiting for the following positions:

  • 1 x Full-time Healthcare Assistant - 5 days per week (37.5 hours), Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:00
  • 1 x Part-time Healthcare Assistant - 3 days per week (22.5 hours), Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 08:30 to 17:00

Both roles will be primarily based at Northgate Medical Practice, however successful candidates will also be expected to provide cover at Sellindge Surgery for our ENT clinics as required, including cover for sickness and annual leave. We offer 6 weeks annual leave pro rata, and salary will be dependent on experience.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist clinical staff during ENT consultations and procedures, including the preparation and positioning of patients to ensure their comfort and safety
  • Prepare and maintain clinical environments, ensuring all equipment and instruments are clean, sterilised and ready for use ahead of each clinic
  • Provide patients with clear information, comfort and reassurance before, during and after procedures, helping to put them at ease throughout their visit
  • Adhere to infection control policies and maintain compliance with all health and safety standards at all times

Northgate Medical Practice is one of the largest GP practices in Canterbury, caring for over 21,000 patients across three sites in Northgate, Blean and Chartham. Our multidisciplinary team of GPs, advanced nurse practitioners, pharmacists and primary care nurses provides a broad range of general practice services and specialist clinics. Patients can access our services at our accessible sites, with dispensing available at our Chartham surgery and through our online systems for booking appointments, remote consultations and ordering prescriptions. We are committed to providing the highest quality care for our registered patients and for those referred into our clinics. As an approved training practice, we regularly host GP registrars as well as nursing, physiotherapy and Kent & Medway medical students.

Job responsibilities

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory
  • Blood Pressures
  • 24hr ECG
  • 24hr BP
  • Undertake venepuncture for adults
  • Wound care/removal of sutures/dressing procedures following local recommendations and using aseptic techniques
  • Stocking measuring
  • Administration of B12
  • Administer the influenza, shingles and pneumococcal vaccine
  • Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
  • Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
  • Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
  • Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Performance & Quality Information

  • Ensure that accurate and up-to-date documentation (electronic and paper-based) is maintained to support performance standards across all performance-based activity, including QOF and Enhanced Services
  • Assist in the production of information required for clinical audit
  • Undertake ad-hoc tasks related to practice performance as directed by the practice manager

Person Specification

Experience

  • Previous experience working in an ENT or outpatient clinical setting
  • Previous experience working in a GP practice

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
  • Up-to-date mandatory training including Basic Life Support and infection control
