Trainee Train Conductor - Manchester Piccadilly

Overview

Join Northern as a Trainee Train Conductor operating from Manchester Piccadilly. The 3‑month apprenticeship trains you to deliver excellent customer care, safety and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and operate train equipment, doors and controls.
• Greet passengers and create a welcoming atmosphere.
• Check tickets, verify travel cards and handle fare collection.
• Provide route and service information, answer queries and give status updates via the onboard PA.
• Assist safe boarding/disembarking and manage delays and emergencies.
• Maintain accurate passenger and operational records.

Qualifications

• Live within 45 minutes of Manchester Piccadilly.
• Age 18+ and able to pass a medical assessment (RIS3452).
• Commit to early, late, weekend and night shifts (up to 02:30).
• Strong communication, conflict resolution and customer‑service skills.
• Self‑discippled, punctual and able to handle safety‑critical information.
