BUSINESS FUNCTION: Safety

GRADE: ML1/SB2

SALARY: Circa £44,000 per annum

ROLE TYPE: Hyrbid

LOCATION: Flexibility to work from home, with the requirement to have a visible presence across out engineering outstations located all around the network (from Blackpool, Hull, Wigan and Newcastle) at least 3 days per week.

We’re looking for a passionate and proactive Health & Safety professional who can also support environmental and crime prevention initiatives within our Engineering Outstations and Train Presentation (TP) teams.

What You’ll be doing:

  • Champion a positive safety culture, ensuring SHEC principles are embedded across Outstations and TP teams.
  • Provide expert guidance on health, safety, environmental, and crime prevention best practices.
  • Be a visible, proactive and dynamic safety leader across Engineering Outstations.
  • Develop and monitor SHEC performance metrics, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Delivering the objectives set within the SHEC plan and wider business strategy.
  • Support risk assessments, audits, and compliance checks to enhance workplace safety and security.
  • Work with industry partners and internal teams to drive continuous improvement in safety, sustainability, and crime prevention.
  • Support change management across Engineering Outstations.

About You:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate is essential.
  • Working towards IOSH membership.
  • Strong background in Occupational Health & Safety Management, with a willingness to engage in environmental and crime-related initiatives.
  • Proven ability to influence key stakeholder’s and drive a strong just safety culture.
  • Knowledge of safety management systems, Managing for Health and Safety (HSG 65), Integrated Management System – ISO 45001, 14001 and leading compliance audits.
  • Ability to travel across NTL outstations and TP locations.
  • Experience in the rail, engineering, or transport sector is desirable but not essential.
  • Looking to develop into a senior SHE leadership role.
