Grade: Co-ordinator 1b

Salary: £52,446 – £58,487 per annum

Contract: Permanent, 40 hours per week

Location: Leeds (on site)

Leeds station never stands still. It’s one of the busiest in the country, where more than 1,300 train services from Northern and other operators arrive and depart each day. Keeping everything running smoothly takes clear thinking, quick coordination, and teamwork. That’s where you come in.

As a Station Co-ordinator, you’ll play a key role in the heart of operations – helping to keep trains on the move, passengers informed, and services safe and reliable. You’ll work closely with our Operations Manager, alongside a highly motivated team who share one goal: to deliver an exceptional experience for everyone who travels through Leeds.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Co-ordinating all train services operating in and out of Leeds station, 24 hours a day, 364 days a year.
  • Working closely with Northern Control, Network Rail, other Train Operating Companies (TOCs), and depot teams at Neville Hill and Holbeck to keep services moving.
  • Responding to disruption, making quick, informed decisions to minimise impact on customers.
  • Liaising with signalling staff and station announcers to manage re-platforming and service changes.
  • Logging incidents, reporting defects, and ensuring information flows to the right people at the right time.
  • Mentoring colleagues and sharing your knowledge to help the team develop.

About You

You’ll bring a calm, confident approach to problem-solving, even when things get busy. You’ll be comfortable making operational decisions and communicating them clearly to everyone involved.

You’ll also have:

  • Good working knowledge of Leeds station operations (preferred).
  • Strong IT skills, with experience of systems such as TRUST, IVU, Tableau, and Outlook (preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both internal teams and external partners.
  • A collaborative mindset – you’re someone who steps up when needed and enjoys being part of a close-knit team.

What’s in it for you?

  • Free Travel: Unlimited free travel for you, your partner, and your dependents on Northern services. Plus up to 75% discount on other networks in the UK and Europe.
  • Generous Pension Scheme: We top up your contributions by 1.5 times.

Why Northern?

We’re more than just a train operator. We’re the heartbeat of the North – connecting communities, creating opportunities, and driving sustainable growth. With 2,500 trains running daily, we’re on a mission to improve rail travel and enhance the customer experience while protecting the environment.

Back in 1825, the first passenger train set off in the North of England, after which rail quickly spread across the globe – and this year, we’re celebrating 200 years of the modern railway. As we look back on the historic events that led us here, we also look towards the future as we move into the era of Great British Rail. Join us at this pivotal moment in rail history and play your part in our journey.

A place for everyone

The best journeys happen when everyone feels welcome on board.

At Northern, we don’t just move people from A to B – we’re building a team where everyone feels they belong. Our talent team can make reasonable adjustments to the process if that’s something you need. We’re also a Level 2 Disability Confident employer, so if you meet the minimum criteria for the role, we’ll always offer an interview.

We automate parts of our screening process to remove any unconscious bias and to make sure every application is treated fairly. All successful offers will be subject to a DBS check and a medical assessment.

No matter your background, experience, or whether you call it a bap, barm, or cob… there’s a place for you here in the railway.
