Job Summary

Business Function: Operations

Location: Ashington

Hours: Approximately 35 per week, including evenings, nights and weekends (e.g. 03:00–10:30, 07:00–16:30, 15:30–12:30, 18:00–02:30)

Salary: OTE £35,000–£37,000. Basic salary of £27,258 until completion of the initial 3‑month training, rising to £34,917 per annum thereafter. Commission, overtime, and the Northern benefits package apply.

You will be the face of the service, ensuring efficient train operation while delivering exceptional customer care. Your days will vary, but you will focus on the safety and smooth running of the journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate train operations with drivers and operational teams, maintaining schedules and monitoring signals.
  • Assist customers onboard: guide boarding, check tickets, provide information, and manage inquiries.
  • Enforce safety rules, manage door procedures, conduct inspections, and handle emergencies, including evacuations.
  • Collect fares, validate tickets, and address fare evasion.
  • Provide timely updates on delays or disruptions.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer counts, ticket sales, and incident reports.
  • Deliver professional service, manage complaints, and create a positive travel experience.
  • Use technology daily, including tablets and body‑worn cameras.
  • Retain extensive safety information through regular assessments.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Reside within a 45‑minute car journey from the station of work.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Pass the RIS3452 Train Worker medical assessment, including drug and alcohol screening.
  • Commit to early, late and weekend shifts without reliance on public transport.
