Northern Trains supports the economic, social and environmental development of the North. The Strategic Planning Team plays a key role in delivering this vision through high‑quality analysis and long‑term planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop Treasury‑compliant business cases for investment across Northern and the North.
- Lead analytical assessment of impacts on timetable, rolling stock, capacity, performance, revenue and costs.
- Produce insight to support investment cases and business change decisions.
- Extract and interpret data from internal models and systems.
- Build and maintain forecasting and analytical models.
- Engage with internal teams and external stakeholders to support scheme development.
- Manage and prioritise a pipeline of business impact assessments.
- Ensure compliance with DfT and industry appraisal standards.
- Support development of long‑term strategic business plans.
- Deliver complex analysis and provide guidance to analysts.
- Present findings to senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Support evaluation of investment outcomes.
Skills & Experience
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Experience working with large datasets.
- Advanced Excel and modelling skills.
- Ability to build forecasting and appraisal models.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Degree in Economics, Mathematics or a similar discipline.
