Role / Department
The Global Regulatory Remuneration and EMEA Total Rewards team is globally responsible for ensuring that Northern Trust’s compensation policies and practices comply with regulatory requirements across the jurisdictions where the company operates. The Regulatory Compensation Specialist acts as a partner and subject matter expert on remuneration‑related regulatory matters for the wider HR function and other Corporate Groups/Business Units across Northern Trust. At an EMEA level, the team is responsible for the preparation and submission of regulatory reports and disclosures and the preparation and presentation of remuneration governance papers to local compensation committees. Additionally, the team supports local heads of HR across EMEA in the review and update of country‑specific reward policies.
Key Responsibilities of the Role
- Act as a regulatory remuneration expert, advising on compliance with remuneration regulations in EMEA, APAC and USA.
- Oversee the application of the remuneration regulatory requirements for regulated entities across all regions both during the annual compensation cycle and throughout the year.
- Conduct gap analyses against new regulatory requirements and drive the implementation of changes, where necessary.
- Support and coordinate the creation of Remuneration Committee materials.
- Create, maintain and update policies that comply with local regulations while keeping consistency with global policies.
- Prepare qualitative and quantitative regulatory reports and disclosures that meet relevant requirements (e.g., Pillar 3 disclosures, MIF008 submissions, gender pay gap reports).
- Train and provide guidance to other team members, HR and the business on remuneration regulation and its application.
- Work with key stakeholders on compensation proposals for regulated roles.
- Handle more extensive, high‑profile work and provide guidance to others to solve complex problems.
Skills / Qualifications
- Expertise in reward‑related laws, rules and regulations in force in the UK, EMEA and APAC locations.
- Experience with the implementation of the EU Pay Transparency Directive a plus.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills, with experience conducting presentations to clients, peers and/or senior management related to remuneration regulation materials.
- Demonstrated ability to consult and interface with all levels of management and apply influencing skills.
- Past experience demonstrating strong negotiation, influencing, change management and project management skills.
- Ability to solve complex problems through quantitative and qualitative analysis in a team‑based environment.
- Critical attention to detail – demonstrated ability to consistently deliver at a high level of accuracy.
- Highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate complex regulatory and/or reward concepts in a way that can be readily understood by non‑experts.
- In‑depth knowledge of remuneration regulations as well as core compensation methods and best practices.
- Ability to create dynamic tools and models to interpret and analyze data.
- A graduate degree and/or CCP is preferred.
