Northern Trust is looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to lead the management, production and oversight of Periodic Reviews for our First Line of Defence (1LOD) Anti-Money Laundering (AML)/Know Your Customer (KYC) function across the enterprise.
This position will report directly to the Global Head of AML/KYC – First Line of Defence within the office of the Chief Operating Officer (COO).
The Head of AML/KYC Periodic Reviews – First Line of Defence will be responsible to stand up the AML/KYC Periodic Review Team within the Center of Expertise, and to centralize all 1LOD AML/KYC periodic reviews across the enterprise, creating a consistent, sustainable, standard periodic review operating model, which is both timely and of high quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead AML/KYC periodic reviews across the firm to support Business Units in the timely and accurate delivery of the end-to-end completion of Periodic Reviews (PRs) for existing clients/accounts to comply with Northern Trust's AML/KYC policies and standards as well as regulatory requirements.
- Provide (Customer Identification Program (CIP), Customer Due Diligence (CDD), and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD)) periodic review services to Northern Trust's Business Units globally; including management oversight of the collection/analysis of client data, documents, and publicly available information for new and existing client accounts.
- Strengthen Northern Trust's AML/KYC risk posture by assessing and demonstrating clear ownership of tasks and associated risks, exercising discipline in risk management processes, and delivering on heightened regulatory requirements through risk mitigation techniques that ensure accuracy and completeness of AML/KYC records through a robust periodic review quality assurance process.
- Drive identification and implementation of opportunities to streamline and continuously improve efficiency and achieve scale within AML/KYC periodic review processes; developing and utilizing automation capabilities where available.
- Recruit, manage, develop, and coach team of AML/KYC Periodic Review Analysts and leaders to ensure performance against team, Business Unit, and firm goals through the implementation of a high quality KYC periodic review team.
- Ensure effective communication (including escalation) of all Money Laundering risks through:
- Establishing a strong and trusted relationship with 2LOD leadership and team to ensure continuous alignment on tactical and strategic matters pertaining to periodic review production within risk appetite and;
- Building and maintaining a direct and robust relationship with Relationship Management & Business Unit representatives to agree upon periodic review schedules (aligning with relationships of client and Relationship Manager) to ensure periodic reviews are performed timely.
- Co-operate with Business Units, Internal Audit & regulatory bodies for periodic review matters and ad hoc reviews while remaining current on regulatory developments through participation in industry forums.
- Working with the Head of Program Management and Head of AML/KYC Governance 1LOD Managers to provide commentary on global status reporting of Periodic Reviews
- Work with the Global Head of AML/KYC – First Line of Defence to drive the business plan and budgets for the Center of Excellence in line with Enterprise Goals.
Qualifications:
- A college or university degree and/or relevant proven work experience.
- Prior experience in financial services; well versed in regulatory and statutory requirements for a G-SIB, preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of AML/KYC/financial crimes regulations and processes
- Transformation mindset, experienced in consolidation of disparate teams and functions to create one Center of Expertise and continuously mature the operating model to best in class.
- Highly collaborative, with leadership qualities to influence positively and productively at all levels of the organization, with clients, and regulators.
- Proven ability to effectively lead and assume accountability for a multi-jurisdictional team to achieve organizational goals.
- Experienced with embedding resiliency in all facets of the end-to-end AML/KYC process to ensure continuity and heightened confidence.
- Significant experience in identifying, designing, building, and implementing end-to-end workflow leveraging technology, process improvements, and industry best practices.
- Accomplished change leader, driving efficiency toward achieving operational scale while maintaining and improving organizational risk posture.
