Role Summary:
This role sits within Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM), a global investment manager overseeing over $1.4 trillion in AUM, and is part of the Consultant Relations team, which is responsible for establishing and cultivating partnerships with investment consulting firms. The coverage across the team spans the global consultants to regional focused firms that operate country by country.
This role supports Consultant Relations for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with a significant emphasis on the UK. The role of the team globally is to build credibility and to secure formal strategy ratings for our asset management capabilities across all asset classes. It requires collaboration with internal partners focused on distribution and servicing efforts across client segments. The Consultant Relations team focuses a large percentage of their time raising visibility of our firm and capabilities amongst research and field consultants that advise institutional clients.
Given the nature of the Consultant Relations effort, the Associate will get exposure to a mixture of Distribution, Servicing, and Investment-related activities. Northern Trust is looking for a proactive, collaborative, and diligent individual to further strengthen the team.
Responsibilities:
- Support communication with consultants to build trust, raise awareness on asset management capabilities, and gain an understanding of their clients' needs.
- Prepare materials for research and monitoring meetings primarily focused on deepening partnerships with consultants. Lead on meeting follow-ups.
- Respond to enquiries from consultants by providing the requested information/analysis, including regular monitoring requests.
- Act as the initial point of contact for consultant or partner enquiries from consultants for asset management products and services.
- Work closely with the RFP team on RFP/RFI activity relating to consultant relations work.
- Work with the Head of Consultant Relations EMEA to track and develop consultant-intermediated sales opportunities via Salesforce, and manage the related internal reporting.
- Bring perspectives and recommend enhancements in processes, products, or services based on enquiries received from consultants through their experience.
- Ensure for overall and optimal consultant servicing satisfaction by facilitating and coordinating resources to ensure timely delivery and issue-resolution, and effectively communicating concerns/needs to NT partners.
Knowledge and Skills:
The successful candidate will benefit from having:
- 3-5 years of Institutional client servicing and a minimum of 2 years of investment related experience.
- Experience with eVestment and other consultant databases, Salesforce, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Writer a plus.
- Development of a broad understanding of asset management services and an in-depth knowledge of the complexities the Consultant segment.
- Direct exposure to Consultant Relations Directors globally, a view into differing engagement approaches across consultants, understanding of how different investment consulting firms are structure, and where this is alignment across NTAM investment capabilities.
- Exposure to Client Portfolio Managers across asset classes to build knowledge of NTAM capabilities and differentiators in the market place.
- Market knowledge of asset management competitors and key trends.
- Hands on research, problem solving, and analytical projects with opportunities to present findings to team members, including members of leadership.
