About the Role

Gosforth Dental Surgery are seeking a hardworking, enthusiastic Dental Nurse apprentice to join their team. The successful candidate will gain a Level 3 Dental Nursing apprenticeship and will be employed for 1 year 6 months with 40 hours per week.

Perks & Salary

Starting wage: £16,640 for the first year, with potential increases depending on your age. National Minimum Wage rates apply for apprentices.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the surgery and equipment for procedures.
  • Engage with patients and their families face‑to‑face within the practice.
  • Assist dentists while treating patients.
  • Perform decontamination and sterilisation of instruments.
  • Handle some receptionist duties when needed.
  • Liaise with staff and colleagues to support patient care.

Training & Professional Development

Apprenticeship includes specialist training sessions, covering oral anatomy, dental materials, patient safety, and infection control. Topics include:

  • Identifying dental and facial anatomy across patient populations.
  • Assessing health risks of drug use and its impact on oral health.
  • Understanding the scientific principles of dental biomaterials.
  • Recognising signs of abuse, neglect, or emotional trauma and reporting procedures.
  • Evaluating patient anxiety, expectations, and providing rapport‑building techniques.
  • Managing medical emergencies and providing preventative care advice.
  • Performing orthodontic assessments and maintaining accurate dental records.
  • Ensuring compliance with legal and best‑practice guidelines.
