Purpose of the Role
The role of Gateacre School Nurse is to provide a high quality, clinically effective nurse led health service to students, and first aid care to all members of the school community. The School Nurse will operate within appropriate professional guidelines (NMC, RCN, BSA, OFSTED) and promote good communication with the school's medical officers as well as the safeguarding team, sports department and pastoral staff of the school.
Key Responsibilities
- Nurture the individual student and promote the development of the whole person.
- Provide nursing care and clinical services to each student, members of staff and any visitors on school premises in line with the agreed clinical protocols and guidelines.
- Organise and coordinate the nurse walk-in clinics within agreed level of competence for students attending for routine health care, medications, immunisations, other nursing procedures and advice.
- Organise GP clinics including advising students of attendance and referrals to GP as appropriate.
- Organise external medical or health appointments as necessary.
- Be responsible for the provision of first aid and emergency care, advice and treatment as necessary. This includes provision of first aid kits for school trips and emergency First Aid onsite including provision of defibrillators, and emergency asthma and anaphylaxis kits for the school site.
- Be responsible for the provision of a confidential health advice service as appropriate according to professional guidelines.
- Be aware of the school policy and procedures for raising concerns in relation to child protection/ safeguarding.
