As a Telecoms Data Engineer you will be an integral part of achieving this, while always striving to keep our customers power flowing. Working primarily within the Telecommunications team, this role will build, change and run, operational and non-operational IP data networks to deliver a reliable telecommunications service to the Northern Powergrid business. The successful applicant must participate in the Telecoms technical out of hours standby rota.
Along with a competitive salary between £53,711 – £73,451 (dependent on experience), we also offer great benefits.

Role
Recruitment Business Partner – Digital & Innovation, Finance and Legal (Location: North East) – Seniority: Not Applicable – Employment type: Full-time
Responsibilities
- Network Configuration and Implementation: Configuring and implementing WAN, LAN, wired and wireless networks, ensuring they meet data speed, coverage and reliability requirements; ensure designs meet IS security standards.
- System Maintenance and Optimisation: Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement upgrades to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Installation and Testing: Oversee installation of network equipment and conduct testing; collaborate with contractors and witness acceptance tests when necessary.
- Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution: Diagnose and resolve issues in communication systems; work with service and support teams to restore services in a blameless culture.
- Technical Support: Provide technical support to customers and internal teams and prepare technical documentation.
- Project Support: Provide project management and direction to deliver high-quality solutions within time and cost constraints; translate stakeholder requirements into specifications.
- Service Delivery: Comply with incident and change control processes; ensure system records and monitoring reflect current network status; work with colleagues and customers to ensure continuity of service.
- Major Incidents: Participate in Telecoms technical Major Incident Management Plan arrangements and support adjustments during incident periods.
- Staying Updated: Keep up with advancements in telecommunications technology and recommend upgrades.
- Manage own time to complete tasks efficiently; work safely in accordance with NP Grid procedures; maintain strong teamwork and documentation skills; perform root cause analysis and implement preventive fixes; ensure high levels of performance, availability and security of the infrastructure; update network diagrams and asset information.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified at least to HNC level 4 in Networking, Electrical or a relevant subject
- Valid CCNA or equivalent IP network qualification
- Minimum 4 years’ demonstrable experience of working on complex WAN/LAN Telecoms systems (IP, Routing, Hardware deployment, design, fault finding)
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- ITILv4
- Degree in relevant STEM subject area
- Experience working in substation and OT environments
- Knowledge of incident & change management
- Experience with PDH MUX Technology, MPLS-TP networks, and Telecoms DC Power Distribution equipment
- Experience or awareness of key network security tools and technologies
Telecoms systems training will be provided for the successful candidate
