In this role, you’ll help turn ambition into action. From delivering social impact projects to driving progress on our carbon reduction targets, you’ll work across teams, partners, and communities to bring our Sustainability Strategy to life. Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, you’ll take responsibility for delivering projects that matter – tracking impact, engaging stakeholders, and championing innovation.

Along with a competitive salary between £30,000 - £45,000 (depending on experience) we also offer great benefits such as:

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Work with the Sustainability Manager and teams across the business to develop, execute, and report on our Sustainability Strategy, while supporting ad hoc sustainability projects.
  • Collaborate with operational colleagues to implement our Social Impact programme, ensuring projects are tailored to local investment schemes and communities’ needs, whilst meeting our business plan objectives.
  • Collate, analyse and communicate data relating to Social Impact to demonstrate the value of the programme, feeding into corporate and regulatory reports.
  • Support the Sustainability & Regional Engagement team with daily operations and administrative tasks.
  • Support the delivery of our Net Zero Schools programme, organise and coordinate our corporate volunteering programme, attend and represent Northern Powergrid at sustainability-related events.

Key Competencies

  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement – Work effectively and build relationships with internal teams, external partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Proven project management skills – Ability to turn organisation and partner requirements into clear tasks and timelines, ensuring work stays on track and aligned with goals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills – An ability to explain and assimilate information, simplifying and tailoring messages to a variety of audiences.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting - With experience in using this to understand and present on progress, issues and opportunities.
  • Organisational Skills – Ability to manage multiple tasks, events, and administrative duties efficiently.
  • Knowledge and Experience of one or more sustainability areas – e.g. carbon management, biodiversity net gain, social value measurement, sustainable procurement, or the energy transition.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong project management skills with a disciplined, proactive approach to tracking and prioritising tasks – ability to manage multiple initiatives, coordinate actions, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Inquisitive mindset, with a genuine interest in sustainability and electricity networks and their role in the clean energy transition.
  • Experience building relationships and networks with colleagues and external partners.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with experience in data capture, analysis, and reporting using tools like Excel and PowerPoint.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Background in sustainability or community engagement, obtained via education, work, or voluntary roles.
  • Experience in sustainability and/or social value reporting.
  • Experience of working in similar sector, or other regulated and complex organisations.
  • Full UK driving licence.
