An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Supplier Development Manager to join our Procurement Team.
The role of Supplier Development Manager is to understand the needs of Northern Powergrid investment plans and ensure that our supply base has sufficient capacity, capability and resilience against supply chain risks. They would also foster and maintain supplier relationships, encouraging supplier participation in tenders through pre-market engagement and guiding new suppliers through the onboarding process.
Along with a competitive salary between £65,00 and £75,000 depending on experience, we also offer;
- Up to 15% annual performance bonus

Key Responsibilities:
- Maintaining supplier relationships and providing process guidance and training to suppliers
- Understanding the needs of the investment plan and ensuring that Northern Powergrid\’s supply base has sufficient capacity, capability, and resilience against supply chain risks
- Monitoring the supplier base to ensure it is sufficient to meet the requirements of the Investment Plan
- Pre-market engagement activities to ensure maximum supplier participation in our procurement exercises
- Onboarding of suppliers and supporting contract mobilisation
- Training and guiding key internal stakeholders in Procurement and tendering activities
- Managing supply chain performance in support of the delivery of our ‘Responsible Procurement’ commitments and the wider Northern Powergrid Sustainability Strategy
- Engaging with key suppliers to measure and reduce scope 3 emissions
- Supplier relationship management, ensuring efficiency and continuity of supply
- Consideration of supplier development and collaboration opportunities
- Represent Northern Powergrid at industry steering and leadership groups
- Advanced knowledge of the EU Procurement Directive
- Knowledgeable in procurement systems and procedures
- High level of literacy –capable of documenting coherent reports, policies and procedures
- High level of IT literacy – to support IT based procurement systems.
- Good communication skills – to be able to routinely deal with internal and external peers
- Strong commercial awareness with good negotiation skills
Qualifications and Attributes
Essential Qualifications:
- HND or equivalent in business or procurement-related subject
- MCIPS
- Procurement within a regulated industry, and understanding of the Procurement Act 2023
- Monitoring and managing supply chain sufficiency
- Supplier development and relationship management
Desirable Qualifications:
- Degree in business or procurement-related subject
- Understanding of regulated procurement as a private Utility
- Operating with Jaggaer and Achilles systems
- Operating with Oracle-based systems
- Development of supply chain resilience plans and managing supply chain risks and issues
