The Connections Business Development Team is focused on delivering quotation services to EHV customers and managing their expectations from the initial engagement to the final connection. This is an exciting time to join the energy sector. Distribution networks are central to decarbonisation and industry reform, and in this role, you will help shape technically robust, commercially sound EHV connection solutions for major customers and strategic national projects. You will play a key part in strengthening network capability and supporting the future growth of the Northern Powergrid licence areas as we move towards net zero.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the end‑to‑end EHV connection process, guiding customers from enquiry to energisation and ensuring a smooth, positive experience.
  • Act as the commercial lead on major EHV schemes across AI, data centres, industrial developments, renewables and public‑sector projects.
  • Prepare compliant EHV connection offers by applying design solutions and interpreting technical, commercial and charging policies with precision.
  • Manage project risks across design options, reinforcement needs and evolving regulatory expectations to ensure robust, future‑proof proposals.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and represent Northern Powergrid in industry, regulatory and government forums.

What we’re looking for

  • You will work effectively within a high‑performing team, building trusted long‑term relationships with external stakeholders and resolving commercial challenges confidently.
  • You are a proactive problem‑solver, comfortable making decisions, taking ownership and delivering work through to completion.
  • You will produce high‑quality outputs that meet Guaranteed Standard timescales and communicate technical concepts clearly to a range of stakeholders.
  • You will bring solid commercial and technical knowledge, with a clear understanding of how the industry is evolving and how networks must adapt to support decarbonisation.

Skills, knowledge and experience

  • HND or degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering
  • Full clean UK driving licence
  • Several years’ experience in an engineering role
  • Good understanding of electrical distribution equipment
  • Sound commercial judgement
  • Experience working with ICPs, IDNOs or major industrial/data centre customers for EHV connections
  • Experience in EHV electricity distribution or another regulated energy environment
  • Experience in transmission and/or distribution electrical design engineering
  • Project Management Qualifications
  • Legal and contract law experience
