That’s where you come in. We want you to grow, to be challenged, and to succeed. Northern Powergrid is offering a tailored programme to become a fully qualified Electrical Power Network Engineer. Funded by us, you will also work towards achieving a two-year Foundation Degree in Electrical Power Engineering at Aston University. You’ll gain a broad range of invaluable experience and knowledge in a variety of structured placements and formal courses.
You’ll be working outside with our industrial and engineering colleagues and will get involved with the design aspects of power engineering. In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to experience first-hand the work of our external suppliers and partner organisations, gaining a broader understanding of how our assets are designed and manufactured.
Once you’ve successfully completed all required elements of your training programme you’ll be appointed to a challenging and rewarding engineering role within our business.
Eligibility & RequirementsHave you got what it takes to apply? To qualify you will have GCSEs (Grade 5 or above) or equivalent (Grade C or above) in Mathematics and English Language, and two A-Levels or 2 AS/A2: Grades A*- C (one must be in either Mathematics, Physics or Engineering).
Application timeline: Closing date for applications: 1st March 2026. Expected start date: 14th September 2026. Our selection process includes a formal interview, and attendance at an assessment centre in late June or early July. You will be notified towards the end of July if your application has been successful and is through to the next stage.
A condition of your continuous employment with Northern Powergrid will be to obtain a full UK driving licence within your first year if you do not already hold one.
