System Forecasting Engineer
to join our

What will you do?

  • Lead the development of
    regional electricity demand and generation forecasts
    using real-time data and stakeholder inputs.
  • Analyse the network\’s ability to meet future needs through
    network simulations and power flow analysis
    .
  • Support our
    Whole System Strategy
    , collaborating with other DNOs and National Grid to identify and mitigate cross-network impacts.
  • Help build and apply tools like
    Digital Twins and automated scenario analysis
    to model future network constraints.
  • Work with internal teams to recommend
    smart, efficient investment decisions
    β€” including traditional and non-wire alternatives.
  • Maintain and enhance detailed network models across voltage levels for dynamic analysis.

You\’ll Be a Great Fit If You Have:

  • A background in
    power systems engineering
    , ideally with experience in
    forecasting, load modelling
    , or network planning.
  • Strong technical knowledge of network analysis tools (e.g.
    DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE
    , etc.)
  • Familiarity with
    electricity distribution networks
    and the UK\’s regulatory landscape (e.g. Ofgem, Whole System Licence).
  • A desire to apply innovative thinking to meet the energy system challenges of the future.

What qualifications and experience should you have?

Essential qualifications and experience

  • Level 5 or 6 (HND, degree, or equivalent) in STEM subject, or a level 4 qualification (e.g., HNC) with at least three years of relevant experience
  • Knowledgeable user of power system analysis software e.g. PowerFactory. Ability to develop scripts for automating analyses would be an advantage
  • Energy sector experience and knowledge of the decarbonisation energy transition
  • Strong technical and analytical skills to interpret information and apply judgement to decision making

Desirable qualifications and experience

  • Experience of working in a regulated or complex organisation
  • Experience of cross-functional working in a large organisation
  • Highly effective relationship manager – influential with internal and external stakeholders
  • Energy sector experience and knowledge of the decarbonisation energy transition
