An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Overhead Line Surveyor to join our Regional Operations Department. We are looking for an Overhead Line Surveyor to predominantly cover the West Yorkshire Area; however, you may be required to work in other areas when required.

As a dedicated Overhead Line Surveyor you will be an integral part of achieving this, while always striving to keep our customers' power flowing. You will be responsible for the provision of a survey and design facility to the Team in support of HV and LV overhead construction projects.

Along with a competitive salary between £39,937 - £53,711 (Tech App 7-13) and 25 days holiday – rising with length of service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertaking topographical and/or condition-based surveys in order to support the design process and establishing optimal routes for Overhead Line Construction projects using a variety of techniques and technologies from traditional Theodolites to Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).
  • Being one of the qualified Northern Powergrid Unmanned Aircraft System pilots reacting to requests for aerial image capture of company assets and carrying out damage assessments while helping to influence and find innovative methods of how this emerging technology can be utilised in the future.
  • Processing of survey data into route design using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software packages.
  • Preparation of construction plans, schedules and other relevant documentation and information for inclusion in project files.
  • Meet with external stakeholders (landowners, tenants, land agents etc.) and liaise with internal colleagues (Construction Engineers, Design Engineers and Wayleaves) to identify issues, problem solve and agree optimum routes taking into consideration the needs of all parties.
  • Planning and delivery of own workload to meet the requirements of Overhead Construction, Connection & Diversion work programmes while maintaining flexibility to react to changing priorities as they arise.
  • Self-motivated individual with a passion for the outdoors who can work individually or as part of a team, seeking out and suggesting innovative working methods to improve productivity and efficiency.
  • Ability to process complex datasets and effectively interpret information from a variety of sources, including analysis, problem solving and suggesting solutions.
  • Effectively deal with conflicting priorities while demonstrating sound time management capabilities to deliver for internal and external customers when they need us.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen and understand requirements while negotiating the best outcome for external stakeholders as well as internal colleagues.
  • Proactively works towards and promotes the business’ goals, recognises and promotes safety & customer service as paramount.
Qualifications and Attributes

Essential Qualifications & Attributes:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Drive to learn and develop
  • Ability to quickly master new systems and equipment
  • Whilst an understanding of overhead line construction specifications and techniques, or land surveying would be a distinct advantage, we welcome applications from individuals with related transferable skills.

Desirable Qualifications & Attributes:

  • HNC in Electrical Engineering
  • Computer Aided Design experience
