We’re looking experienced Commissioning Engineers to join our Major Projects Team at Northern Powergrid , where you’ll lead on the safe, efficient delivery and commissioning of major infrastructure projects—from 11kV to 132kV.
If you\’re experienced in the commissioning of cables, overhead lines, switchgear and transformers as a UK-based Senior Authorised Person (SAP) , then we’d love to hear from you.
You’ll take a lead role in delivering high-voltage projects to time, cost, and quality standards while working closely with Protection Engineers, Project Managers, Wayleave Officers, and specialist contractors. Your expertise will be vital in planning and executing network outages, managing emergency plans, and commissioning assets that are crucial to powering 3.9 million homes and businesses.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery and commissioning of construction projects across HV and EHV networks
- Operate as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) from 11kV to 132kV
- Take ownership of operational outage planning and execution
- Manage the commissioning of critical infrastructure including cables, overhead lines, switchgear and transformers
- Support new demand and generation connection projects
- Ensure projects are delivered safely and in line with CDM and Distribution Safety Rules
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes
- Participate in an operational standby rota (once authorised)
- Operational experience and authorisations, including the ability to become Senior Authorised to 132kV
- Detailed knowledge of safety procedures, specifically CDM regulations, and the Distribution Safety Rules.
- Ability to undertake plant and equipment commissioning
- Extensive experience of delivering projects to time, cost and quality
- Ability to plan, control and co-ordinate short to medium term project resources
Qualifications & Attributes
- HNC, HND, degree, or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with at least three years of relevant experience
- Hold existing HV or EHV Senior Authorised Person status operating on a UK based distribution or transmission network, or UK based privately operated electricity network.
- NEBOSH/IOSH or similar qualification
