About the role
As Regional Stores Controller, you’ll provide operational leadership across Northern Powergrid’s regional stores network throughout Yorkshire and the Humber. Leading a geographically dispersed team, you’ll create a consistent, high-performing operation supporting engineers across a diverse region that includes major cities, industrial centres, market towns and rural communities. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Regional Operations, Central Logistics, Materials Management, Procurement and the wider business, ensuring our stores network continues to deliver an outstanding service while embracing innovation, continuous improvement and modern ways of working. This is much more than managing day-to-day operations, it’s an opportunity to influence how our logistics function evolves, develop talented people and help build an operation ready for the future. As part of the role, you’ll also participate in our standby rota, providing operational leadership during major incidents and severe weather events when our customers need us most.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead and inspire colleagues across four regional stores, creating a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing team
- Deliver a safe, efficient and customer-focused operation supporting planned work, fault response and network investment programmes
- Develop and coach colleagues through regular one-to-ones, performance conversations and development planning
- Build strong working relationships with engineers, operational teams, suppliers and stakeholders across Northern Powergrid
- Ensure materials are available where and when they’re needed through effective planning, stock management and operational oversight
- Use operational data and performance insight to identify opportunities for improvement and drive better outcomes
- Champion innovation, consistency and best practice across the regional stores network
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and operational governance
- Support business continuity arrangements, emergency incidents and severe weather responses

- Warehouse or Operations Manager/Supervisor
- Transport Operations Manager
- Manufacturing Team Leader
- Fulfilment Operations Team Leader

What you’ll bring
- Full UK Driving Licence (Some points may be considered – Declare in application)
- Demonstrable experience leading teams within logistics, warehousing, stores, distribution or another operational environment
- A Level 3 (or higher) leadership or management qualification, or a willingness to achieve one within your first 12 months in the role
- Counterbalance Forklift Licence
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience using Warehouse Management Systems and Microsoft Office applications
- A commitment to delivering high standards of safety, customer service and operational performance
- Degree or higher education qualification in a relevant discipline
- CILT, IoSCM or equivalent professional accreditation
- Forklift licences (Reach/Narrow Aisle)
- Experience working within utilities, engineering, logistics or supply chain operations
- Experience leading continuous improvement or operational change initiatives
- Experience using Warehouse Management Systems such as Oracle or SAP
