Do you want to help power your career and be part of an evolving energy industry? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Safety Engineer to join our Health, Safety & Training Team. As a Safety Engineer, you will support the Health and Safety Delivery Manager by applying Health & Safety legislation and appropriate company policies to deliver practical solutions in terms of maintaining safety and ensuring site hazards are controlled. The successful candidate must have the ability to effectively manage numerous work requests and deliver them in line with agreed priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner closely with operational teams to provide advice and practical guidance on a range of health and safety topics.
  • Provide coaching and support to line managers to ensure robust investigations are conducted with accurate evidence-based root causes identified in a timely manner.
  • Carry out proactive site visits and audits to measure compliance and governance elevating safety performance.
  • Stay ahead of the curve by maintaining an up to date understanding of current, new and emerging health and safety legislation.
  • Identify, assess and evaluate health and safety risks arising out of or in connection with the company’s undertakings.
  • Champion and promote HSE Approved Codes of Practice and Guidance, and industry best practice.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) across your designated business area ensuring that technical information and legislative requirements are translated into the business in a pragmatic way.
  • Deliver individual priorities, projects and department objectives across a wide range of health and safety topics.

Key Competencies:

  • Ability to work individually without direct supervision and deliver key department objectives to a high standard.
  • Competent in a range of incident investigation techniques aligned with HSG245.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across the Health and Safety team and the wider business.
  • Proven communication, influencing and people skills and the ability to present effectively at all levels from frontline colleagues to senior management.
  • Proactive attitude and work ethic and want to make a real difference.
  • Ability to deal with a demanding workload and managing change in a Health and Safety environment.
  • Willing to learn new technical skills to enhance health and safety performance and open-minded to new working methods and initiatives.

Qualifications and Attributes

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • NEBOSH LEVEL 6 National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent)
  • HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
  • Previous Health and Safety experience in high-risk industry preferable electricity distribution, utilities, construction or manufacturing.
  • Full clean UK driving license

Desirable qualifications and experience:

  • Project Management experience
  • Experience planning and organising multiple projects
